The Reform Era: What Changed
The Milei administration's 2024–2025 economic shock program produced results that most analysts did not expect: a dramatic fiscal adjustment, a sharp decline in inflation from 200%+ annually to below 30%, and the gradual unification of exchange rates. Argentina reached a primary fiscal surplus for the first time in 16 years in 2024. These structural changes altered the investment calculus for foreign capital.
What Remains Uncertain
Argentina's political volatility remains a real risk. The reforms are significant but incomplete — currency convertibility is not yet fully restored, capital markets remain underdeveloped, and the long-term sustainability of the adjustment program depends on continued political support. Foreign investors should have a minimum 3–5 year horizon and should not deploy capital they cannot afford to have illiquid.
The Opportunity
For patient capital, the opportunity is exceptional. Argentine assets — real estate, agriculture, energy and corporate equity — remain deeply undervalued relative to their fundamental quality. The combination of low entry prices, structural reforms and improving macro conditions creates a window that historically closes quickly once confidence returns.
