Palermo: The Expat Hub
Palermo is Buenos Aires' most international neighborhood and the natural first home for most expats. Sub-divided into Palermo Soho (boutiques, restaurants, galleries), Palermo Hollywood (media companies, cafés, weekend market), and Palermo Chico (consulates, embassies, luxury residences), it offers walkability, excellent services and a large English-speaking community. Rents are higher than other neighborhoods but reflect the premium lifestyle.
Recoleta, Belgrano and Núñez
Recoleta offers a more formal, European atmosphere — wide avenues, grand apartment buildings, the famous cemetery and proximity to the MALBA museum. Belgrano is family-oriented with excellent schools and a diverse international community. Núñez and Colegiales are growing residential options for those wanting slightly lower rents and a more local feel while remaining well-connected to central Buenos Aires.
San Telmo, Puerto Madero and Caballito
San Telmo is the bohemian heart of Buenos Aires — colonial architecture, antique markets, tango bars and a growing arts scene. Puerto Madero is the modern waterfront district of luxury towers and international hotels. Caballito is the quintessential middle-class Argentine neighborhood — affordable, family-oriented and perfectly positioned in the geographic center of the city.
