What Is the DNI?
The DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad) is Argentina's national identity document, issued to all Argentine citizens and to foreign residents who have been granted residency. It is your primary form of identification in Argentina — used for banking, healthcare, property transactions, contracts and government services. Without a DNI, navigating daily life as a resident is significantly more difficult.
Who Can Get a DNI?
Any foreign national with an approved residency permit — whether temporary or permanent — is entitled to apply for a DNI through the Registro Nacional de las Personas (RENAPER). The DNI is issued to all foreign residents regardless of nationality.
The Application Process
Once your residency is approved by the DNM, you book an appointment at a RENAPER office or a DNI appointment center. Fingerprints and biometric data are taken, and the document is typically delivered by mail within 15–45 days. The Roffo team coordinates your DNI appointment as part of every residency engagement.
