How Long Does Argentine Residency Take? A Realistic Timeline
Realistic timelines for each stage of the Argentine residency process — from document preparation to DNI in hand.

Document Preparation: 2–6 Weeks
Before filing, you need to gather and authenticate all required documents: passport copies, criminal record certificates (apostilled), proof of income or investment, birth and marriage certificates as applicable. Documents issued abroad must be apostilled in the country of origin. If documents are not in Spanish, certified translations are required. DNM Processing: 1–4 Months
Once filed, the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones processes your application. Processing times vary by category and volume. Mercosur nationals typically receive faster processing (4–8 weeks). Non-Mercosur applicants should plan for 2–4 months. During this period, a precaria certificate is issued — a temporary document that allows you to legally live and work in Argentina while your application is processed.
DNI Delivery: 2–6 Weeks After Approval
Once residency is approved, your DNI appointment is coordinated immediately. Biometric data is captured and the DNI is delivered by mail. The full process from first document gathering to DNI in hand is typically 3–7 months for well-prepared applicants.
