Argentine Inflation: How to Protect Your Assets
How inflation has shaped Argentine asset management, and how foreign and local investors protect capital.

The Argentine Inflation Experience
Argentina has experienced persistent high inflation for decades. At its peak in 2023–2024, annual inflation exceeded 200%. The reform program reduced it significantly — but Argentines have developed deep, practical expertise in protecting capital from currency erosion that few other countries possess. This expertise informs every financial decision in the country.
Dollar-Denominated Assets
The most fundamental hedge Argentine investors use is USD-denominated real assets — primarily real estate, but also USD-denominated financial instruments. Real estate in Buenos Aires is priced in dollars and remains the most trusted store of value in the country. For foreign investors, this means the inflation risk is automatically hedged when transacting in dollars.
Other Protection Mechanisms
Other instruments include: dollar-linked bonds (deuda en pesos ajustable por tipo de cambio), UVA-indexed deposits (adjusted for inflation), agricultural land and commodity-linked assets, and gold. For foreign investors, the simplest approach is to maintain your primary exposure in dollar-denominated real assets and to limit peso-denominated exposure to operating cash needs.
